If you are not familiar with Gwen Jorgensen, she is a USA Olympic Triathlon Gold Medalist and a mother of two. She also advocates for sustainability and the environment. Freedom Solar was pleased to help Gwen convert her Louisville, Colorado, house to solar power this summer. Gwen was interviewed about her mountain life, solar experience, and Purpose in life.

GWEN’S Q&A

What do you enjoy doing in Colorado outside of your daily routine and training?

Gwen: My family and I enjoy spending time outside. We commute on bikes to places like restaurants, bike parks, and pools. My five-year-old son loves to picnic by the pond and play in the creek.

Why did you decide to switch to solar energy and go green?

Gwen: I’m passionate about saving our planet. We use a lot of energy, even though we have a compost heap, and we commute whenever we can. Solar could help me live a more eco-friendly lifestyle. I am an athlete, and I love the outdoors. I want to do all I can to preserve Mother Earth’s beauty. I am not perfect, but I will do my best. The solar option is great. It was easy to install and less expensive than I expected. After only a few weeks, I’m already seeing savings.

What other ways have you incorporated sustainability in your family’s life?

Gwen: We ride our bikes to work a lot. My son cycles 9km to the school. It’s great to see him enjoying himself. We have one car and commute whenever possible. We have a compost heap in our backyard, and we grow our food whenever possible.

The idea of starting a solar project can be overwhelming for some people. What is your experience with a busy schedule?

Gwen :Freedom Solar took care of everything from the beginning to the end. The process was easy and seamless. They arrived when Xcel Energy performed their inspection. This allowed me to avoid being home. During the entire process, I was only needed for 10 minutes. Freedom Solar took care of all the details.

How was the experience of working with Freedom Solar through the entire process?

Gwen said That they had the best service. They wore booties when they entered our house to inspect our roof. When they left, they brought a vacuum cleaner to clean up any mess that was not there. They answered all my questions quickly and gave me multiple options on our solar panels so I could choose the best option for our family.

What was the one thing that surprised you most about your new system now that it’s complete?

Gwen : It’s surprising how much solar energy we generate during the winter. Freedom Solar Power only uses Sunpower solar panels, which are the best available in the industry.

Freedom Solar Panels are powered by the Sun and fueled by Purpose. What fuels and motivates you?

Gwen :I get my energy from my family. y  energy is generated by spending time outside with my family. When Stanley and Patrick are riding bikes to school, I love running with them.

As a company, we believe that getting out of your comfort zone is one of our core values. What advice would give someone who wants to push you beyond their comfort zone?

Gwen : Take baby steps, and always remember that you can return to your comfort zone. Slowly increase your limits. All that I’ve learned from sports can be applied to my everyday life.
