Freedom Solar’s Gift of Renewable Energy Allows Southeastern Food Bank To Feed More Hungry Central Florida Families During The Season of Giving

Freedom Solar gave a free installation of a $113,000 solar panel at the Winter Garden, Florida headquarters of Southeastern Food Bank. Freedom Solar’s donation is expected to help the food bank offset its energy costs and will fuel its mission to feed 50,000 food-insecure children, seniors, and families throughout Central Florida during this holiday season.

Southeastern Food Bank offers food and counseling to more than 88,000 individuals and families in need throughout Florida and Alabama. They provide services to a wide range of demographics, including low-income families, people experiencing homelessness, disabled or unemployed individuals, drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers, children’s homes, and senior organizations.

Mark Anthony, Southeastern Food Bank’s President, fell in love with solar after installing Freedom Solar panels at his home. Mark Anthony, Southeastern Food Bank President, decided to install solar at the foodbank after experiencing solar’s benefits firsthand. The Freedom Solar team was sold after meeting Mark and learning about the mission of the food bank. Freedom Solar donated all the panels, including the installation. This helped the food bank to have lower and predictable operating costs for many years.

The Southeastern Food Bank headquarters has installed 71 SunPower(r) solar panels on the roof of its dry storage warehouse. The panels can produce more than 47.200 kilowatt hours (kWh) per year. This is enough renewable, clean energy to cover 70% of Southeastern Food Bank’s annual electricity needs. Southeastern Food Bank is expected to save $236,000 on energy costs during the life of the system. These record savings will allow the food bank to feed an average of 800 additional local families.

Mark Anthony said, “The cost of living is increasing, and we’ve seen an increase in the number of needy families.” Freedom Solar allows us to save up to $800 per month. This helps us offset fuel costs so that we can buy food all over Florida.”
