Because solar energy can eliminate flaws that were long thought to be insurmountable, it offers significant advantages over traditional energy systems. Although solar power for home energy production does have its faults, they are dwarfed by all the benefits listed below.

- Raw materials can be used in unlimited ways. There is a staggering amount of solar energy available, approximately 10,000 times more than humans currently need. And it’s continually replenished. However, these environmental costs are minimal compared to the damage caused by traditional energy sources. Each year, the combustion of fossil fuels releases approximately 21.3 billion metric tonnes of carbon dioxide into our atmosphere.

This may surprise city dwellers, but Home Power Magazine reports that 180,000 homes in the United States were off-grid as of 2006. The number is likely to be significantly higher today. These people must depend on fuel-based lighting, which can cause significant social and environmental problems. They also pose a threat to their health by contaminating indoor air. - Green jobs are created by solar power. Solar panels are becoming an increasingly important source of employment in research and manufacturing, sales, installation, and maintenance.

This includes political or economic turmoil and terrorism and natural disasters, or brownouts from overuse. The 2003 Northeast Blackout impacted 55 million people in two countries. Rolling blackouts are common in South Asian countries and sometimes in Texas and California.
- Solar power helps to reduce foreign energy consumption. A large portion of the earnings in many countries is used to purchase oil for power generation. The United States spends an average of $13 million per hour on oil. Much of this oil comes from the Persian Gulf countries. These problems continue to drive the growth of solar power and alternative energy systems as oil supplies decrease and prices rise in this politically unstable region.
