Freedom Solar has partnered Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas to install solar panels and offset its out-of-pocket expenses for a rooftop solar installation at its Austin facility. This donation will help expand services and increase sustainability of the organization.

RMHC CTX is a close-knit organization that has been a home away from home for many Freedom Solar employees.

Bret Biggart, Freedom Solar CEO, stated that the Ronald McDonald House is Austin’s most prestigious charitable institution. He said that it was an honor to work with them on this project as they strongly support their mission to support families who have a child in hospital. “The compassion and support they offer are essential to the emotional and physical well-being for Central Texas families and children served by Central Texas hospitals.” Six members of our team have personally benefited by Ronald McDonald House’s services.

RMHC CTX offers families the stability they need during their child’s hospitalization so that they can concentrate on their children feeling well, positive, and secure. The Ronald McDonald House is located just steps from Dell Children’s Medical Center. It has 30 guest rooms that can be used by families with hospitalized children.

They served on average 85 families per month in 2022 through their Ronald McDonald House, Ronald McDonald House Family Room and Healing Hearts programs. It was founded with the principle that no other thing should matter when a family’s focus is on their child’s health. RMHC CTX covers all the essentials so families can focus on their sick child. Family support is the best medicine at RMHC CTX. They strive to keep their families close to their sick children every day.

The Freedom Solar team knows firsthand the incredible organization after having used their services previously. Freedom Solar wanted to give back to an organization that helped their colleagues in their most difficult and vulnerable times.

Freedom Solar donated 42 SunPower(r), solar panels to the building’s roof. These solar panels have the potential to produce 14 kilowatts of solar energy. The installation of the new solar panels was completed at zero cost to RMHCCTX. The new installation will enable RMHC CTX expand their reach in the community and provide additional necessities for families while they deal with the constant fear and hardships of caring for a sick loved one.

“We are grateful for Freedom Solar’s generous partnership with us on the project. This will improve our operational efficiency, and ultimately enable us to service more families with a hospitalized children,” stated Carolyn Schwarz, CEO of RMHC CTX. “Every dollar that we can save on operating costs is money we can use to provide a comfortable place for our sick children and other compassionate services to families who are dealing with the trauma of their child.

Freedom Solar, in partnership with RMHC CTX, has partnered alongside other Austin nonprofits to help them go green, including the Dell Foundation and Mothers’ Milk Bank of Austin.

Freedom Solar is grateful for the opportunity to partner with Ronald McDonald House and other community organizations. We look forward to creating a sustainable energy environment that will benefit more families.
