Description

Global energy consumption has grown rapidly, causing significant environmental problems and energy shortages. Recent awareness of climate change and the pollutants produced by carbon fuels has already fueled a rapid growth in interest in renewable electricity generation. Solar energy is a renewable, environmentally sustainable energy source that has been used extensively in the domestic, industrial, and rural sectors.

Solar energy is used for two purposes: electricity and heat. Solar thermal energy is used to heat air or water for home and business applications, such as heating and cooling. Solar thermal energy is also used to generate electricity, for example, in a concentrated solar plant. The solar photovoltaic technique converts solar power into electricity by using semiconductor solar materials.

This Special Issue aims to bring together a number of research papers that cover various aspects of solar technologies. These include the latest research on solar desalination and transportation, solar heating and ventilation (HVAC), and solar building technologies. Research on novel systems, simulation and modeling, performance assessment, and optimization are all of the interest. Original research, as well as review articles, are welcome.

Topics include, but are not restricted to:

  • Solar panels for buildings
  • Concentrated solar power: Advances
  • Solar powered vehicles
  • Solar desalination technologies
  • Solar fuels
  • Floating solar plants
  • Hybrid energy systems
  • Energy storage technologies
  • Solar passive buildings
  • Solar HVAC
  • Modeling and simulation of sustainable technology
  • Optimisation sustainable technologies
  • Performance evaluation of sustainable technologies
  • Environmental Impacts of Sustainable Technologies
  • Sustainable technologies: Policy and economic aspects
