The Trump administration finally released the long-awaited Section 201 Solar Trade Case ruling yesterday. The tariff of 30% on imported solar modules and cells – which applies to the first 2.5GW imports and decreases by 5% each year – aligns with two of three recommendations made by the US International Trade Commission in October 2017.

This isn’t the best outcome, but it’s not the worst. Suniva’s original price floor request could have led to a two-fold increase in import costs. Analysts estimate that the approved tariff will increase up to 10% on utility-scale solar projects. (Bloomberg).
