Texas’ power grid was repeatedly threatened by the blast furnace heat of summer. Solar power users are the only ones who have any silver linings.
This is a sign that the sun shines brightly when temperatures soar. The same energy powers solar panels as the triple digits. They also contain electrons that can be used to power air conditioners and appliances.
This is how solar power makes Texans and Texas safer and more free. Because they produce their own electricity, solar users can avoid high electric bills. Those who combine solar panels and battery storage can have an additional supply of electricity in case the power goes out.
Texas’ home-scale power plant force is growing rapidly and Texas also benefits. Every kilowatt generated by Texasans frees up power to be used by other families and businesses. This helps ensure that Texas’ energy market can supply the energy needs of all who depend on it.
Texas is one of many states that will experience tight electricity supplies this summer. This may not be the end: Texas A&M University’s state climatologist projects that Texas will experience even hotter summers in future. The state’s traditional electricity plants will need help keeping up to the growing demand.
This op-ed I wrote in in the Texas Tribune stated that Texasans don’t trust their state’s power grid. It’s almost certain that Texas will need help to keep the lights on in the future, given its growing electricity needs.
