It is a fact. Every thing has a carbon footprint. Even green energy solutions such as solar panel have some carbon emissions on the way to their customers’ homes or businesses. SunPower is proud to offer clean energy solutions that reduce carbon over the long-term, but in order to exercise environmental responsibility we must also consider the entire journey of our products.

The U.S.’s largest source of greenhouse gases is transportation, and its dependence on it is a major factor in our economy. Heavy-duty trucks account for more 25% of all U.S. transportation emissions, but they make up just 5% of all vehicles. This is a large slice of the pie.

There is good news. Electric trucks are becoming a more cost-effective and cleaner alternative to diesel trucks. SunPower has seen firsthand the benefits of combining solar and electric vehicles, from reducing fossil fuel dependence to generating savings. The combination of the two is a winning combination. We announced our alliance with Webbox in July, and now we are bringing Volvo’s electric trucks to the mix.

Volvo announced recently at the Advanced Clean Transportation Expo that we are working together in order to reduce carbon emissions by using Volvo’s 8-wheeler battery trucks to provide high-efficiency solar panels. The truck charging station has solar panels installed. This completes the green circle. Kuehne & Nagel International AG will dispatch the Volvo VNR Electrics. This is a long-standing third-party logistics provider and global transport and logistics company. We are thrilled to be the first solar company to use an electric fleetof heavy duty trucks to meet our transit needs and to lead the renewable freight industry.

SunPower was looking for a partner to electrify the supply chain. We wanted to work with a company who shared our values of sustainability, environmental stewardship and community. Volvo Trucks understands the importance of reducing carbon emissions in the transportation industry and has put concrete goals into the driver’s seat by offering environmentally responsible solutions. SunPower is aiming to do the exact same.

You can now be sure that we further reduce our carbon footprint when we deliver our storage solutions throughout North America.

  • Utilize an electric commercial fleet to transport your solar energy solutions to distribution centers. The goal is to replace carbon-based vehicles by electric in the near future.
  • Reduce mileage by visiting new distribution centers and reducing travel time.
  • To ship more product at a lower distance via Dependable Highway Express (DHE) or other carriers, pack trucks densely.
  • Trains used to transport goods. Trains emit significantly less carbon than traditional modes of shipping.

SunPower has always been focused on sustainability in its solar panels’ life cycle, including the recycling method. It not only increases the technology’s value, but it also makes people feel more comfortable about switching to renewable energy sources. It’s how SunPower is changing our world’s power system.
