Two companies are building an enormous new solar farm in Elm Branch. It covers 1,350 acres and is located about 40 miles south-southwest of Dallas. This 163-MW project is the first large solar project developed by L3 Harris Technologies solar panel and Lightsource BP.

It’s the world’s largest solar project, with more than 360,000 panels. This project represents Texas solar trend, which continues to rise across the entire state.

L3Harris and Adaptive Construction Services have partnered to train returning veterans in the construction industry. More than 50 workers are expected to work on the initial wave of installations.

The solar farm will bring much-needed revenue to the community through tax revenues for local school districts and communities. The new Elm Branch Solar Farm has many other benefits.

BETTER JOB OPPORTUNITIES

ACS will assist veterans in becoming more qualified for employment in the renewable energy sector. The veterans will receive training and internships with solar companies across the country.

These opportunities are hoped to provide future job security and allow them to support their family.

ENVIRONMENTAL ADVANTAGES

Its efficient irrigation systems will also reduce water consumption by 5 million gallons per year. The irrigation system will also reduce water consumption by five million gallons annually.

Elm Branch is now an official WaterSense Partner with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

NEW HIGHWAYS FOR SOLAR ENERGY

Solar has experienced double-digit growth in recent years. The average annual increase for the last decade was 42%. Over 100 gigawatts worth of solar power is now available nationwide, enough to power 18,9 million homes.

This new solar farm will be built in Elm Branch to add to the power grid. It will also provide a more sustainable energy option for residents.

INCREASED Land Value

The new solar farm is also expected to impact the surrounding properties positively.

Construction of this building will increase the value and worth of the land that the company develops. It will also allow farmers to make more money from their crops and cattle. One farmer already plans to borrow money from a local lender to build a new farmhouse.

Free Help for Farmers

L3Harris, ACS, and Colorado State University are hosting a workshop to teach farmers about solar power. The workshop will teach farmers about solar energy, its economic benefits, and how to engage in the sustainable energy movement.

The workshop will address other common concerns regarding solar energy, such as whether or not it damages crops and reduces farmland value.

SUPPORT FOR THE NATIONAL CRAFT WORKFORCE INITIATIVE

The program offers solar installation training to veterans, military personnel, and local workers who wish to gain practical job skills. ACS has held internships for veterans in various parts of the country. The goal is to develop a skilled workforce supporting renewable energy projects nationwide.
